Organic:

Organic means food that's grown or raised without toxic chemicals or pesticides. Here's why it's so important.

We are what we eat.

If an apple is nourished with toxic fertilizers and pesticides, it’s going to contain toxins. And if you eat it, so will you. Don’t want to eat toxins? You should buy organic food.

Look Ma, no pesticides.
Organic farming maintains and replenishes the fertility of the soil without using toxic pesticides and fertilizers.

Pesticides and fertilizers drain into the water supply, they become part of the environment on every level — and they end up in the crops themselves (just washing your fruits and veggies doesn’t get out the chemicals).

Pesticides also create pesticide-resistant strains of insects, requiring the use of even more pesticides. It's no surprise that the biggest advocates of conventional farming are companies that make pesticides and chemical fertilizers.

Suzy (from Alternative Grounds, in Toronto, and who is a fellow member of Cooperative Coffees) shows off some organic beans she helped pick. Pickers working on organic farms aren’t exposed to the dangerous pesticides that are used on conventional farms.

Yes, sometimes organic costs more, but it’s worth it.

Organic farming is better for the earth because it doesn't contaminate it with toxins. It's better for our bodies for the same reason. If the health of our bodies and our planet isn’t worth a few more cents, then what is?
